Awards & Bursaries

Banting also has a number of potential external awards and bursaries that are presented to deserving students at Commencement of their graduating year. These may also be based upon leadership, citizenship, extra-curricular activities, volunteer activities, post-secondary destinations and course of study, and/or special circumstances.

All of the following awards, bursaries and scholarships require a separate application form.

  •  John and Phyllis Darling Memorial Award   -  June 13

  • A deserving student attending Queen’s University. A Queen’s student number will be required.

The Rotary Club of Alliston-Paul Harris High School Scholarship – May 30
  • Awarded to a Banting student going on to post-secondary education who has demonstrated leadership in their community  e.g. academic, amateur sports or voluntary service endeavors.  $1500.

Mayor's Student Bursary - May 2 (EXTENDED TO MAY 12TH)

  • Awarded to graduating students from New Tecumseth who  is going onto post secondary studies or is participating in an Apprenticeship Training Program and whose financial circumstances may prevent them from proceeding.
  • Download application and send to your guidance counsellor. Your Guidance Counsellor will complete the endorsement and return to you
  • Applicants are required to send the endorsement and all other necessary documentation  to awards@newtecumseth.ca

Terry Weatherup Memorial Scholarship- May 30
  • To a student entering a trade (college or apprenticeship); who has completed over & above community service hours requirements in an outdoor capacity.  This person has a passion for the outdoors and exhibits great leadership and technical skills.  This is a video interview application.

The L.P. Keogh Award -   May 30 

  • This award recognizes a graduating student who has demonstrated exemplary voluntary service throughout high school, which has benefited our local community. This may include work in a variety of community service areas: youth, elderly, education, cultural, church, recreation, sport.
(Please be specific regarding where you volunteered, what types of services you performed and how many hours you volunteered with the organization (s))

Tetra Ninja Productions Award - June 12

  • Awarded to two graduating students going on to post secondary who experienced adversity, such as hardship, illness, disability or loss in high school that impacted their lives, but overcame it through hard work and perseverance.
  • Award of $1000.

Terry Dowdall Youth Award - May 30

  • Awarded to a student who plans to pursue post-secondary education and has demonstrated exceptional academic study, leadership within the school and volunteerism within the community.

Simcoe Area Women’s Institute Scholarship -  Not running this year

  • Open to all students of good academic standing who have shown leadership skills in school and their community. Pick up application in Guidance.

Simcoe County Federation of Agriculture  -  June 21

  • Open to high school students whose family is a member of SC Federation of Agriculture who will enroll in an Agriculture program.

The Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia - May 31
​
  • A graduating student going on to post-secondary studies who is a resident of Essa. Students must have demonstrated leadership experience

County of Simcoe - July 29
  • Awarded to a resident of Simcoe County who is accepted into their first year of university or college and demonstrates interest in and contributes to their community.
  • Five awards of up to $3000​

Dufferin Northern Peel Anglers and Hunters Association Bursary - June 2

  • Awarded to a student who is pursuing post secondary studies in the fields of environment, wildlife and natural resource sciences, conservation, aquaculture and natural resources law enforcement.
  • Award of $1200

Cookstown Agricultural Society July 10
  • Awarded to a graduating student in South Simcoe County whose family is a past/current member of the Society or 4-H Club and are going into agricultural studies.

WIC Bursary - April 22
  • A female student entering Post Secondary Education in the 2022/23 year with a focus on Trades.

Alliance Agri-Turf Agriculture Award  May 20
  • To a student continuing their post-secondary education in Agricultural or related field.

OTIP Bursary Program
  • A $1500 bursary for any student attending post-secondary who has a parent that is an educator/OTIP member.
